Oh Lord Śambhu, be my Guru

Lost forever and ever in this ocean of Samsāra,

amidst pain, grief and worldly pleasures,

forgetting the higher purpose of life,

drowning again and yet again in the same stream,

Relieve me of this suffering,

Oh Lord Śambhu, be my Guru!

Oh Nilakanṭha, forever being immersed in daily duties,

entangled in emotions and in thoughts.

With anger, greed, pleasure, might and pride dancing in my mind,

my foolish mind forgets to chant your name!

Forgive me and accept me,

Oh Lord Śambhu, be my Guru!

When sorrow comes it brings me closer to you,

for I know that this body is to be cast off,

like a garment on this earthly plane,

leaving all worldly gains and all worldly transactions which end here,

it is my soul alone which is pure enough to experience you!

Oh Lord Śambhu, be my Guru!

When worldly bonds break free of attachment,

bonds that are selfish and with the element of ego

nullifying the karmic ties and their consequences,

true and unconditional love blossoms

and brings me closer to you, the abode of grace!

Oh Lord Śambhu, be my Guru! Be my Guru! Be my Guru!
